
Announced a few days back, the regulations are effective as from today. Some forbidden activities, when using water supply, regardless of using a water hose or any other apparatus) are :
- washing of vehicles, buildings, pavement
- watering of plants, lawns, hedges
Following a press conference, the concerned minister announced that the restrictions do not apply to those using collected rain water and hence, encourages people (especially car washers) to do so, or move to waterless washing.
Our reservoirs are around 45% of their capacity whereas last year, at this same period, they were 75% full.
For those who still remember (and are old enough), the times these measures were effective were as from 5th January 2011 till 24th February 2011, i.e., for a duration of nearly 2 months. and also in February 2012. This said, you are also encouraged to inform authorities of any water wastage, just like I did here.

With climate change, hotter with lack of rain, you would think that the authorities/CWA would be planning desalination method that is used in Middle Eastern countries. The problem is probably the cost but it will be inevitable in the long-term future.
