Mauritians fellows, I hope that you recently washed your cars as well as watered your lawn or got your windows cleaned recently. As from tomorrow 10th February 2012, the water usage restriction will be applicable once again, as it was previously the case during the period of 5 January 2011 to 24 February 2011.
To remind you, not abiding to these rules has serious consequences. The previously applied Drought Period Regulations 2011 stated the following :
(a) In the case of a domestic consumer to a fine not exceeding 50,000 rupees and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years.
(b) In any other case to a fine not exceeding 200,000 rupees and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years.
So, till further announcement*, try to keep yourself away from the water hose and just call 202-9946 (between 6am and 8pm) and 170 (after 8pm) to denounce your troublesome neighbor to police for water wastage.
Save water… It doesn’t grow on trees
psst : * = some stupid decision of the authorities when they notice some hours of rainfall[Read post].
People DON’T waste water. They just don’t know how to use it properly.
And SORRY CWA, you can’t blame the whole population if your water management SUCKS big time.

As most people know, a lot of water is just wasted here by bad management and lack of infrastructure. It is only in recent times that the CWA and the authorities have been seeking expert advice on how to improve the network. I believe they should have consulted the UAE countries because they have expertise on extreme water shortage conditions. Of course the consumer suffers the consequences of bad management. Here waste water is lost and in other countries it is reused after purification process. I also think that the authorities should seriously consider desalination as a backup. However, desalination is an expensive process but I am sure that the EU, China and/or India would be happy to give grants for this development.

Do you know of anyone who’s been fined for wasting water during the drought season?
Btw there’s a typo in your last line; it should probably read “police for water wastage” but it’s written “police for waster wastage”
