A few days back, my cousin posted a photo of her holding her freshly-cut braided hair. It was quite a shock but while going through the photo caption, everyone understood the reason behind her decision.
She was far from trying to look like a model and post pictures to get likes. In fact, she decided to go for a hair cut of length of over 30 centimeters in order to make a hair donation to a US based non-governmental organisation providing Hair Replacement Systems and support for children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, radiation therapy, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, burns and other medical issues.
Later that day, she sent the carefully packaged hair by registered post to Wigs for Kids. Once they receive the hair, they will process it appropriately to transform them into wigs. If you wish to do the same, you must ensure that your hair meets the requirements. Please refer to the official web sites for more details. For info, other similar associations do exist, for example Little Princess Trust. If you cannot donate your hair for some reason (I barely have 2 centimeters of hair on my head), financial contributions are also accepted.
While waiting for the official email from Wigs for Kids, I grab the opportunity to thank her for the guts and the courageous move 🙂
Looking forward to hear more similar experiences from our island.
