Okay, the so-called intellectuals are at it again: nothing new in it. But I’ve watched it and it shows so much. This is an outsider’s view of the state of things in Mauritius and obviously, you’ll come across things which you know but may have discarded, but a lot of people don’t know these things! There are some faults but it’s up to you to make the final analysis. And oh, I think it will shock Mauritians more than tourists! Meaning of things: watch the documentary because it’s worth it. Epic irony: the same people who rant about the propaganda of MBC still rant at this rather good example of investigative journalism.

It was somewhat impartial, but I think its still very good because you will NEVER see this kind of thing on MBC!
We always talk about the bright side of the country, but we hide the dark side of the country – most Mauritians are not even aware that we are 5th on the list of rate of drug abuse in the world, or that there is a chronic abuse of immigrant workers, others becoming rich on our heads, etc..It’s foreign journalists who did this kind of investigation, while Mauritian journalists are busy writing about sex scandals and beautiful portraits of our politicians!I say good job M6!

If you follow the news, nothing is particularly shocking in here. 2nd highest % of heroin users in the world, the despicable living conditions of the paid slave labour, the home-made clones & the 2% controlling the 90%.
But if you believe in the whole paradise thing, then be prepared to get a wake-up call.
I love the irony showing the story of the peddler in contrast to the baron.

It’s good not to be blind to the problems of society. These problems are not exclusive to Mauritius but are hidden to the casual visitor. Just like the tarpaulin (bâche) put up to hide an unsightly shantytown (bidonville) the authorities are only covering up problems instead of tackling them. Being in denial is not a solution.

Not sorry for agreeing with this article:

Relying on ethnic “generalisation” confers some amateurish pretentions which empties the substance of the thing – they should have stayed here for longer, not just jump to conclusions. Especially about Afro-Mauritians and Euro-Mauritians…

Good job M6 ! This reporting was very well done and it showed “la face cachée du Paradis”. I feel that people who are moaning about this tv programme are just denying this fact about Mauritius or are just reacting negatively to the comments.
Personally I knew about drugs in Mauritius but I have to admit that I was surprised to see how drug is sold openly and how much people spend per day to get their dose !

This programme has indeed brought shame to our country but denying the true facts is not the right attitude. However drug dealing exists in all countries but not all countries are known as “Heaven on earth” !
I doubt that tourists who have watched this programme will refrain from visiting our country. They still came after the Chikungunya, they still came despite the economic crisis and they still came after the cruel murder of a tourist in a prestigious hotel. So if there is drugs in our country just like theirs, I strongly doubt that the percentage of tourist’s arrival will go down !

alors quand eux ils exploitent
Ils veulnt qu’on
terres???

As soon as some society facts are brought out in the open there is a cry of unpatriotic blog reporting. See the comment on this link which attacks bloggers for negative reporting.
Unpatriotic Mentality
The writer even attacks a particular ethnic group, (without having the courage to name it), for “breeding large families”, (animals breed, humans reproduce). The writer blames them because they do not practice birth control due to religious convictions. Now who is being unpatriotic, attacking the vunerable of society and human rights all in the same sentence. That is the citizens the writer is referring to. Sounds like the ugliness of communalism to me.

“Sounds like the ugliness of communalism to me”
To me, it screams blatant and pungeant racism. And let me tell you that Le Matinal has finally pulled the post down.
The ugly part of M6 in that story is taking stereotypes for THE reality, when actually, our Mauritian way of life is much richer than what they seem to be chortling about.
