Un tombola de la STC

Tombola STC

In the 18hrs News Bulletin of a private radio today, the radio host announced that the Ministry of Finance had emitted a communiqué/letter to the different ministries, governmental departments and parastatal bodies.

The letter was mainly of financial concern for the forthcoming budget. These above mentioned bodies will also be encouraged to organize events to raise funds for themselves.

An hilarious comment made by the journalist was;

“[…] pourront maintenant organisé des activités ou des levé de fonds pour se financer.

Imaginez un tombola de la STC! […]”

I don’t have anything against the State Trading Corporation, but the series of controversial issues and “transparency” with which the price of petroleum products is re-adjusted monthly are putting the credibility of this organization at risk.

Incident 1:

Everything started with the hedging of Petroleum Products which is forcing Mauritius to pay a much higher price ($110) while the price per barrel even dropped to ~$40.

Incident 2:

There was another incident some months ago where the price of the petroleum products was leaked to the MBC.

On that day, MBC had already announced the price well before the official press communiqué of the Automatic Pricing Mechanism.

Incident 3:

More recently, the STC was back in the headlines with another polemic in which another hedging was done for “Gros Pois” with a company from Madagascar.  You may ask yourself, how was this Gros Pois hedging problem came up?

Well, it happens that the cargo was found to be improper for consumption and when the STC tries to put that on the back of the Madagascar’s company, the latter brought several points forward including the fact that STC’s representatives checked and validated the product before its embarkation to Mauritius.

Incident 4 (updated at 2215hrs):

Lastly,  a logo/banner of the STC was seen for a horse race in India…

  1. The question is “Did STC sponsor the race in some way or other?
  2. Was the logo placed just as customers’ reference?

In the 2nd case, yes, they are right!

They won’t get so stupid customers so often!

I dont know, but seems that an enquiry is going on(?)

These are only those incidents which I know and perhaps known by the public, but Mauritians have a big problem…

We tend to forget things too easily…

Those in the last bloggers’ meeting might remember how I kept asking the names of everyone during those 3 hours lol! btw, I think many of you are taken up with the uni exams, so let’s wait for the holidays before planning any bloggers’ event!

Don’t worry, STC will be back to the news for the next price update!

I wonder if they know that this is not a game!

  4. After all these scandals, best thing would be to scrap STC and get the Petroleum companies to import their own petroleum products. But again, petroleum products are sold cheaper in Mauritius than most countries.
