Changes on facebook for 2009

facebooknew1

Elo all readers and Facebookers.

A few minutes ago, when I logged into my Facebook account, the new home page had already been rolled into my account!
Indeed, this new version of the home page has been launched since a few days ago, and was made available to users since 11th March 2009.

As you have probably noticed if you have the new profile layout, the horizontal tabs (links, photos) have now been moved to the left (vertical) while there is a new section on the right sidebar called Highlights.

Other changes

The new homepage is not the only change brought to Facebook.

Here are the other changes:

  • Facebook pages(Fans) have been renames to Facebook Public Profiles

Dont forget to join my blog’s Public Profile!!! More than 1200 fans!

  • Facebook is having rounded corner pictures  ðŸ˜›

  • Facebook status message and wall
You may not have noticed it yet, but there is a big change in facebook status message and wall, see below.

When replying on someone’s wall, like below

Your friends will see the following on their home page

However, be careful, and all your friends will know what you have been doing, check the following update!

  • Facebook publisher
I have not yet understood this change, I quote :

The Publisher on your profile has been updated
The Publisher in the box above your Wall has been updated to match the one on your home page. No matter where you use the Publisher, your posts will appear here and in your friends’ streams, provided they can see the post.

  • Facebook Live chat for applications
A new feature is the integration of facebook chat into applications, directly.
This has been made available to developers.

btw, Facebook announced that it has over 190 million users, with over 700,000 new users everyday!

Just imagine!

That’s all for today…

Looking forward to see every blogger in today’s meeting! Be there!

  2. Still trying to understand the changes. Where do you enter status now? Looks like it is rolled into one with share/wall? Have to get used to finding where things are now….

  3. 50% looks cool.. the other part, well, where’s the status updates you could see for everyone? i dont think the highlights is something necessary, but lets see in the future how that becomes useful.. the left column i think is a waste of space and it was better off on the horizontal bar like before.

    @Mike:
As for the status, it’s on the home page u can type it just under: “What’s on ur mind”. The only problem is that we cannot get our current status directly on the home page… 😦
To clear it u will need to go to your profile… :/
