Will you make a purchase at C&C?

For the last 2 weeks, I have been checking out the laptops available for sale in different stores of the capital. The laptop is not for my personal use, but for someone who gave me the responsibility to choose one that can be used to communicate with the children who are living and working abroad.

So, basically, the needs were simple: Communication. No gaming, No advanced specs. A wifi and a web cam would be the essential things.

After a visit to the different shops, I noticed that the price offers at C&C were perhaps the best on the market. They had a range of laptops, covering every needs and budgets.

However, after much thought, I preferred to invest a few thousands more by doing the purchase somewhere else, offering a famous-brand laptop according to the needs, and most importantly, one covered by a 5year warranty on parts and labour, peace of mind 🙂

My final choice was simply based on one last criteria: After Sales Service.

Over the last years, I have been hearing a lot of (bad) things on C&C. Angry customers complaining about the bad and non-existent after-sales service, frustrated users unable to use their newly purchased systems for weeks because of repairs which are still being carried out, blabla bla bla.

So, my questions today:

  • Did you ever make any purchases at the above mentioned shop?
  • How was the after sales service?
  • Were you satisfied overall and what are your critics/suggestions?

Please, the name of the company is C&C, do not write it in any other way lol.

  1. Oh wait. C&C is still alive? OMG. Buying a laptop there is like shooting yourself in the foot. There I’ve 2 feet. So I shoot 1 of them. Perhaps in Jan/Feb 2011 I will buy a new laptop. Acer most probably since Dell doesn’t have a “strong” specification laptop.

  3. I am also reluctant to purchase any PCs, laptops or TVs from them because of the lack of after sales service. I only buy small items from them such as TNT decoder or mini HIFI system. For PCs and laptops I prefer to get quotes from a professional technician(Quick Step Ltd Tel mob. 7298485 – e-mail: info@quickstepsolution.net)who is also a dealer for Dell. Getting professional quotes based on requirements has advantages over just browsing in a shop with general sales staff who know less than you.
Does anyone know where I can get USB-turntables here?

  4. Yes, I did. 7 years ago. 2004. Just bought my PC.

The PSU’s fuse kept blowing whenever I would go beyond 50% CPU usage. They made me buy a UPS, change plug socket, while I kept telling them that the problem was with their damn PC. I made them change around 12-15 PSUs.

Until I decided to take matters in my own hands. Researched the problem & found that the mobo they used didn’t include an ATX 12V cable (required for P4s). Bought another mobo & never saw their faces again & I lived happily forever after…

Sill using the PC. Most reliable I’ve ever come across. (Except for the cheap bad RAM they used, now replaced). 😀

WORST AFTER SALES SERVICE EVER. CHEAP LOW QUALITY PARTS. STAY AWAY!!!

  5. C&C isnt as bad as people says it is. because i got many friends who took pcs and laptops at C&C and never got a problem with it :S. you get your 5 years of warranty over the pc and 3 years over hardware…and most of the time the warranty is from HM communications which is one of the best technologies sellers over the island… well. i do think its not the “bad” to buy something at C&C. between.. my mum always buy mobile phones at C&C lol… and she never got any problem with it….

  6. Now this is a good question.

I was also asked to choose a laptop for someone some time back. However the person was not very comfortable with the C&C option. Even though the price and technology looked right. She did not trust C&C. She said that she knows that C&C sometimes re-sells used items as new.

I have also a “complaint” about C&C. It’s the people working there. I recall that some years back (so I hope it’s no more the case) the employee were thick and rude. Joking vulgarly among themselves and often speaking to customers like an ill mannered NTA bus ticket receiver/giver.
The Chinese guy working there (who seemed to be the boss) was as insolent and ill-mannered as the others. He was bossy and un-respectful to customers and did not show one ounce of customer care.

    C&C people are very deterrent

  8. courts nice, C & C is always fishy, i once bought a UPS there, it worked well for 3 months it died afterwards.

I also bought a laptop once there, one year after i stopped working [an issue with its graphics card], when i brought it there so as i could get parts, i didn’t mind paying for the parts, but they just didn’t wanna hear about it, i had to in the end go to harel mallac all by myself figure out where it is, and from there deal with harel mallac myself.. only to find that they didn’t have that part.. infact i still have that laptop, its sleeping for years .. just because i couldn’t get a gfx cards that fits :s]

  10. Hi,

I don’t think that C&C is that bad. I have bought my mobile phone there and its been 4 years and i never got any problem with it.

Also i have bought 2 laptops from them one Dell and a Toshiba, both are still in very good working condition and i have never had any problem.

In my opinion i think that C&C is not that bad afterall.
    Thanks

  12. I have bought many things from C&C (2 mobile phones, laptop, PC, pendrives, etc) and has never got bad experience like many are saying. Most of the laptops that from C&C are guaranteed by Harel Mallac.

One thing we need to accept about the Mauritian mentality is that they want “to pay less, but want first-class products”. Just like everyone complains about products ‘Made in China’, China do have third-rated products and as well as first class products. But we all want CHEAP products…. BON MARCHE COUT CHER, so if you want to have good quality products, invest more and get better products.

  13. would advise against. we (company) bought 10 laptops from there,(it was the cheapest as per our requirements) and after 1 year, the batteries died on some of them (they would not take charge at all). fortunately for us, we imposed a 3 year warranty on the laptops (HP). But I still find it weird..one laptop, well you were unlucky out of the lot, but 4 laptops getting same problems….

  15. It depends from C&C.
If the laptop is HP bought from C&C, it is usually guaranteed by superdisc. So there is no problem, because you can easily go directly to superdisc for after sale service. It all depends on the brand and what guarantee is associated with it.

So, Hello everyone, I am the blog author.
I once bought an ipod shuffle at this shop. Fortunately, I did not come across any issues with the mp3 player 🙂

The ipod’s price was the best on the market but as for after sales service, I can’t say anything on that one 😉

    Cheers!

  18. hi yashvin,

if you’re planning to buy a laptop i would advise you to buy it from harel mallac or leal…you definitely want to get good after sales on such an expensive item.Bought a dell from HM 2 years ago still 3 more years guarantee on parts&labour to go!(except the battery)…still running great…except for a minor overheating issue which was fixed in less than a week by the HM tech support.Only downside is its located in a remote corner of pailles which is really inconvenient if you need to drop your equipement there.
As others mentioned CC is only good for cheap products where u can afford to take the risk for a lower priced item.

    cheers,
    krishnen

  20. I bought an Acer and a MacBook Pro from them. What is important to note is that service is offered by the representatives of the brand and not necessarily C&C per se. For example when I had a problem with the Acer I was directed to Harel Mallac. As for the MacBook Pro I am authorized to deal with any representative which are AFAIK C&C, Leal or Paoma.

  21. Once i bought an MP4 player there.. It was in 27 june 2010 at VIP COMMERCIAL CENTRE Flacq.. ON 9th July 2010 was unable to On it as the screen was blank. So since i got the so called guarantee papers i brought it to the ‘5 star’ shop to get it repaired. The next week they phoned me to come to get it as it was reapired.. Again after 2 week again same problem.. Again i gave them for repairs and believe me this procedure continues.. till the following year. If calculated properly, after deducting the number of days it remains in the shop for repairs,i used the item for a total of 42 days out of the 365 days in the year: ))!!! later i realised that actually it was a ‘casualty patient’ product!! So only one advice i would like to give.. NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING VALUABLE AT C & C!! AS C & C ALSO MEANS CASES OF CASUALTY products!

  22. Dear all,
Concerning this matter its a very delicate one..it all depend on clients some are really happy and some are disappointed!!!!
In an organisation the heart is the aftersales so have to cater our clients in such a way zat zey would return back…
C&C is a really big outlet,I personally had bought sme simple things from and till now no problem even with aftersales…There is one more thing also customers is king but we become are often rude when we are well catered…
Enjoy a nice and wise shopping….

  23. Like many have said, buy laptops only if they are guaranteed by Superdist, Harel Mallac, Leal and others. My uncle bought an HP there, and got problems: Superdist exchanged for a higher spec Acer since they didn’t have that one! Personally, I have had not-so-good service from HM: they’re overpriced that’s all.

One very important thing to check is to take the laptop in your hand and try to twist the bottom half. If it make creaching noises, don’t take it! I have seen the same Acer model from C&C looking Toy-like plastic, while other are really solid.

And if you get problem with your MP4, it’s not C&C, it’s because it’s a cheap MP4 designed to run 6-months for that kind of money.

*Dealt with customer care once. The pen drive did not work at all. I went there on the next day and they gave me another 1. Packed piece.

I do not have complaints against them. I have never bought branded stuff there as i prefer to go directly with the one who represent the brand in mauritius.

  27. C & C always sell refurbish notebook and other product , “refurbish” meant a product that been already used well by another customer where they have returned it to the manufacturer for bad functionality or broken issue, then the manufacturer re do another packaging and repair some scratch to make it become new in box again.. that y the price always low, and we sometimew think how C&C can sell some item at an unbelievable price, but in the reality its refurbish product .
