For the first time of my life, I have been to Champs De Mars to participate in the National Celebrations of this great day in the history of Mauritius… 42 years of Independence and 18 years of Republic. For years, I have been following the flag raising ceremony, live on tv but being there is completely different. At different instances, I had to rush to go under the covered area to avoid rain falling on my camera.
And I must say, it is the first time I shot Video, in 720p HD… Wow,the quality is SUPERB! I just need to practice a bit more, use a tripod to avoid hand shaking…
I am a bit sad that I did not get great pictures because it was really impossible to zoom more than 3x with my current lens. Sure, on the tv, everything looks nice, so nicely zoomed for you. There, you can barely see something π
Here’s a short video for those who missed the live show on tv…
btw, I boosted the speed and reduced the quality considerably to be able to upload it quickly.
We had dinner at Pizza Hut, Caudan where the atmosphere was really nice and noisy… I said noisy yes! lol. Customers, especially kids, received a small “party blower/trumpet” for the celebrations. Everyone was blowing unlimitedly. Even the waiters could not stop laughing…
But nobody would dare to ask any of us to stop blowing that, you know why?
BECAUSE WE ARE MAURITIANS AND PROUD OF OUR COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE!

Nice post, good video, you had quite a good position there. On a more patriotic note, you must admit that, over the years, Mauritius has made leaps in development and is on a good track. Hopefully, poverty and an improvement in employment conditions will be dealt with soon.

Belated Happy Independence Day,Mauritius!
My family plans to spend holiday in your country by July. We were invited by my golf buddy. We made several suggestion for hotel accommodation but were looking on lowering our cost, any other suggestions in mind.
