Using shopandship to expand your online shopping possibilities

With the pandemic creating chaos all over the world ๐ŸŒŽ , you surely canโ€™t do your online shopping ๐Ÿ›’ because no one wants to ship to an island ๐Ÿ with very limited flights. Even though a few sellers on AliExpress and eBay are still willing to deal with us, most often they are providing only premium shipping ๐Ÿšข couriers such as DHL or UPS, which are not always affordable.

You also sometimes feel stranded on a tiny island when you are checking out your cart on a big branded online store : โš ๏ธ Sorry, we do not offer international shipping.

Examples are takealot.com in South Africa or bestbuy in the states.

There are also situations whereby products are on sale on specific websites, targeting a specific market.

For example, UK based FireAngel alarm ๐Ÿšจ systems which are sold on Amazon.co.uk only ( not even Amazon global).

What is ShopAndShip / Aramex ?

shopandship.com ( by Aramex) is probably one of the workarounds to your online shopping spree. By creating an account there, you get access to a personal delivery address in over 30 cities while they operate in over 80 destinations around the world ๐Ÿ—บ

Similar to other shipping carriers, shopandship have built their own global network around the globe in order to provide this forwarding service. In Mauritius, the Celero Group is responsible for the delivery of your parcels, including custom clearance and other paper works.

So, the next time you want to buy a specific brand of chai ( tea) sold only in ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India,

Step 1 : Go to your shop and ship account and note down your Mumbai address ๐Ÿ

Step 2 : Add your item to your cart ๐Ÿ›’ , checkout and type in your indian delivery address

Once shopandship receives your parcel, they will forward it to your real Mauritian ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡บ address and depending on air traffic, you can expect to drink your fav Indian tea while comfortably sitting on your couch within a few days ๐Ÿ“….

Step 3: Meantime, you can pay ๐Ÿ’ฐ for shipping costs on shopandship.com directly, or on delivery. Other charges, such as VAT (if applicable) will be charged on delivery ๐Ÿ“ฆ too.

Step 4 : Relax and drink your tea at home. โ˜•๏ธ

How much does it cost ?

Even though it is a paid service, it is still cheaper than other premium shipping couriers and more reliable than normal shipping. It costs $45 to create an account on their web site and they charge you per weight of your parcel. You can even subscribe to their premium services and get additional benefits.

Below is the cost if you have to ship from different countries to Mauritius ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡บ:

As you can notice, the price is not excessively high, and it varies per weight, not cubic volume. If you are shopping online very often, then it might be worth paying for their premium services (FLEX), enabling you to make savings on each shipping.

You should not forget additional charges in Mauritius, charged at delivery :

Coupon codes

And if you are lucky enough to get valid coupon codes, that $45 subscription fee can be waived off, just like when I got one on the 31st December 2020. In fact, I have been actively looking for coupon codes since a few months ๐Ÿ—“ and it paid off! So, if you are looking for a free subscription, good luck.๐Ÿ‘

And another awesomeness happened at that same time : it was the last day to grab boxing sales on Amazon UK ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง . No need to say that I took that opportunity to buy a few stuff on that day.

My experiences

I first used the service earlier in 2020, much before Covid 19 was declared as a pandemic ๐Ÿ˜ท

At that time, I ordered my FireAngel alarm devices on Amazon UK, got it delivered to a friendโ€™s shopandship UK address and the parcel reached Mauritius after approximately one week.

And on 31st December, after creating my own free account, I received my Amazon purchases ๐Ÿ’ฐ in my UK address on the 4th January 2021. The parcel was registered ( and visible) under my account on the 5th January. Later that same day, it left shopandship premises and took a flight โœˆ๏ธ to Dubai. It stayed nearly 3 days in Dubai because of a shortage of flights and on the 9th, it reached Mauritius. After going through paperworks ๐Ÿ“ and customs, it was finally delivered to my doorstep on the 14th January 2021.

There is a detailed tracking available for each parcel they receive at your shopandship address:

So, it took roughly 10 days from London address to my real doorstep ๐Ÿก

Other alternatives

These parcel ๐Ÿ“ฆ forwarding services have been around for quite some years and many people, including Mauritians, use them for the reasons I mentioned earlier. Popular ones are borderlinx ( closed now) and I think myus among others. They will surely be gaining more popularity now that I wrote an article on this topic. Lol ๐Ÿ˜‚

Each one of them have their own set of benefits, disadvantages and associated costs. For example, shopandship does not offer combined shipping, meaning that they will forward your parcels as they receive them, separately in case you have several parcels. Make sure to read properly all facilities and restrictions before using such service.

One last thing : Don’t even think about staying at your shopandship address on your next vacations! ๐ŸŽ‰

  1. Hello,
Shop&Ship is terrible, i’ve used them several times from 2018-2020. Very bad customer service. And the last time i used them, when my parcel arived to me and there was nothing in the box. Luckily, the driver told me to check it as he heard that my product was stolen and they still decided to send me the package which was very dishonest. Talking to the people in charge over the phone, i simply refused the package and was told that an investigation will be made. It’s been 6 months now and i never got any refund. I am tired to ask for update from the management. Also i’ve been told by someone that hundreds of packages were stolen from their facility from their employee. I wonder how many people got the same problem as me. You can check their review online, it is absolutely terrible. Even people from UAE where the company come from have stopped using them as Emirates have created similar service which is way better. I would not recommend this company to anyone, don’t get fool by their cheap shipping.

On a better note, i have tried 3 companies this year which seems far better than shop&ship.

MYUS: Definely a little more expensive than shop&ship in term of shipping but you have the choice between various shipping carrier (Fedex, DHL, UPS, normal post) and you can make consolidation which is far more efficient if you are buying lot of stuff from various website. I would recommend them but as a side note, i have cousin who used them last year and his package was deliver to them and it took one month for them to updated the package to his account. And i was during the pandemic. But I have used 4 times, no complaints. All my packages arrived between 10-25 days. But beware that shipping for very heavy product is very expensive, i got some surprise. And i always used DHL as carrier as i don’t like fedex and ups in Mauritius. And DHL was cheaper on myus compare to them. And yes i paid for the premium account which was better for my needs. But their is also a free account.

Stackry: Same service as myus. Only complaint is that shipping is more expensive but again you can deal with Fedex, DHL or UPS and you can consolidate too. And you get free pictures. And another plus is that their customer support is so good. I also used only DHL as with myus. I used them 3 times and my packages arrived between 13-20 days. And i found their website to be easier to used compared to myus. Also it is free to used, their is no membership fees etc..

ParrotParcels: A friend told me about them last december and I’ve used them 2 times. But technically it is not same service as typical package forwader. It is more a concierge service as far i understood. So basically, they buy the good for you, ship it and do all customs formalities if necessary and deliver it to your door. What i really like about them is that before buying you know how much it will cost you (shipping, taxe etc..) Also as many may know many big times US retaillers have banned package forwaders address like bestbuy, newegg, nike, apple and many times some ebay sellers. But you can order from those website using them. My first order was a book from amazon (amazon quoted me 49$ to ship to Mauritius) and parrot quoted Rs. 350 (no custom tax) Package arrived in 12 days and it was begining of Jan 2021. I tried order more expensive stuff and to test their consolidation. I bought a GPU from newegg, CPU from BHphoto and motherboard and ram from amazon. They quoted me Rs. 1,550 and Rs 50 for consolidation and Rs. 3,850 for custom tax. Received my package in 2 weeks i think and it was beginning of March. It is pretty legit and it seems to be a Mauritian company. It is good for people who don’t want the hassle of online shopping or website that have banned package forwaders. And i forgot, their customer support is amazing.

    1. Hello.
Oh, the secret is patience and Google search. Lol. For months, I googled regularly looking for coupon that works. They do issue free membership coupons, so you need to keep an eye on those web sites listing free coupons.
      Good luck ๐Ÿ‘

    1. Even a battery inside a watch? In which country did they reject the parcel?
I read about the batteries thing that but weird. I imported wireless alarms with built in 10โ€“yr guaranteed batteries without any issue.

    1. Hello
I do not think that you need any special permit to sell online. However, since you are doing business and it is a source of revenue, one should most probably register the company with the MRA and Ministry of Commerce. But the business of selling online is Mauritius has no proper framework, explaining why anyone just sells online without permits or registration.

Cheapest way remain Mauritius Post but be sure to register your parcels and have signed at delivery option. More expensive items and critical orders should be shipped via DHL / FedEx etc but it will be much more expensive.
