Free VIP Parking in Port Louis. Hurry!

Do you drive your car to Port Louis for work, shopping or any other purposes? Then, you will definitely agree that finding a parking slot is a real problem. To get one, you need to take your purse out to pay for a parking coupon, either on the streets or private parking spaces like Caudan etc.

And now the announcement : For a undetermined remaining period of time, there’s a special offering :

Free parking space in the heart of the capital for approximately 10-14 vehicles!

Where? Just in front of the Municipality of Port Louis, along SSR street (Ex-Desforges).

Proof :

Since the last tarring following an upgrade of the existing drain system along the street, the authorities have not painted the double-yellow lines back, as it used to be. I do not remember for how long actually, but definitely for over a couple of months. Surprising, everyone noticed it but authorities never did. Even if their office is right there in the capital, and in front of the spot mentioned.

How would you call that?

Grab a parking slot while it is still possible! Plis bon ki sa gaté!

.

Update (2nd October 2012) :

That’s it! The authorities were getting ready to draw the double yellow lines this evening. On my way to my (paid) parking, two employees of TMRSU (Traffic Management and Road Safety Unit) were busy working on one side of the road.

I can’t really complain. I have used this free VIP Parking quite a few times and it saved me really lot of time daily, probably 20-30mins per day! The parking slots were on a first come first serve basis and the last ones available were already taken by around 8:10am daily, sometimes even earlier.

Drivers, get back to the search of a new parking tomorrow! 😦

  1. Hey it’s really free!!!! No yellow lines and both sides are not yet accountable as a parking zone1. It’s strange how the local authority has completely missed-up on that or the contractor forgot to paint the yellow lines? Anyway I’ll fear any embarrassment with the police, as they might put a Denver wheel clamp onto my car and I will have to disburse Rs2000 or more as if I tell them that there’s no yellow lines or no parking zone, for sure they will tell me to go to court and fight for it !!!

  6. this is correct, this is not a ‘trottoir’ but a drain system. A trottoir is defined as a walking space which must be above road level.. Else it is a drain system
